Laptop coolers?

Question by maxime: Laptop coolers?
I have an hp dv1000 that keeps overheating and turning off.
The top lef corner gets realy hot. I think the fan on that side isn’t working. I was going to open it up to see if there’s dust in the fan but to get to it the keybord has to be taken out…seriously hp WTF?

So im thinking of getting a laptop cooler. So which one should I get? there is so many.

My hp is 15″ and here’s what it looks like:

  1. If you go to this site and scroll down the page, you will see several very reasonably priced laptop cooling fans/pads.

I have shopped here before without a problem. Their return policy is excellent should an item not work to your satisfaction.
As far as the on-board fan goes, get some compressed air and blow it, and all of your ports out.
Kind of angle the air stream so as to not blow any more gunk inside than necessary.

  2. You should have someone to take a look at it.Overheating is not good. You can buy a chill Matt at Best Buy,Circuit City or Staples. They work pretty good at keeping your notebook cool.Good luck.

  3. Hey what’s up maxime :) I see you looking for a laptop cooler that would bring the heat down to a compatabile temperature. Well I’m absolutely sure that this product will be what your looking for because this will cool your system down by 95% no joke, I know this because I also had this product for my laptop it’s a Toshiba for almost 4 yrs now and trust me it works like a charm I’ve had no problems with it at all It’s called the Antec Notebook Cooler you can buy this at your local Wal-Mart if you can’t find it in stores definately try online thanks for taking the time to read this and ENJOY :)

  4. better get it fixed or else it will fry your computer. it shuts down so that it wont melt your pc from all that heat.

  5. If your fan is broken it won’t help much if you get a cooler.

Check HP for the status of your warranty:
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/ProductRoot.jsp?contentType=WarrantyBridge&lang=en&cc=us&docIndexId=64259&taskId=101

…pick your product and it will lead you to some place you can enter your service tag, then it will tell you the warranty expiration date.

You may also find the service manual which will give instructions for removing the kb.

Here’s where you’ll find the parts:

  6. Like said before I’d take it some place and get the fan repaired/replaced. Then look into a cooling pad. I have a sony vaio that run kinda hot when doing alot of apps. A cooling pad really did help mine stay cooler.

  7. A laptop cooler isn’t a bad idea but definitely NOT a solution for a broken fan. Antec makes some good laptop coolers with up to 3 fans and it plugs into your usb port for power. If it’s under warranty, get it fixed and be tough with them because HP might try to brush you off or make it difficult to get service.

Removing the keyboard off laptops is fairly easy. Usually, you just have to remove the panels right above the F1-F12 keys to reveal the screws to the keyboard. This will involve some careful prying. You can probably search online for instructions to take apart your laptop to clean it.

  8. First get laptop fan replaced/repaired pronto!

Then take time looking for cooler at http://dealspl.us/ Got an Antec for about $ 9.00 last month but have wait 90 days for the rebate.

  9. Best you get the fan in your laptop fixed or replaced.
The fan is there for a purpose. You shouldn’t rely on a laptop cooler to replace the fan.

If the fan which is not working happens to be the CPU fan then you are risking burning the motherboard or other components if you continue using the laptop. Laptop cooler fans won’t replace the internal fans in your laptop

Have the laptop’s internal fan fix as soon as possible if you wish to continue enjoying it.
