Why a Retina Display on a MacBook could be a bad idea
On a 17-inch desktop-replacement laptop, it's great, and it mostly works on a 15-incher as well. But, as you increase the native resolution of a display, text, icons, and images appear smaller. Put a 1080p display on a 13-inch laptop, and Web sites and …

Q&A: Is it possible to find a mac laptop under 300 dollars?

Question by greenlemon: Is it possible to find a mac laptop under 300 dollars?
I would like to buy a mac but they are all just so expensive! Has anyone seen one that’s cheaper?

Best answer:

Answer by CanadaRAM
Not a prayer on a new machine — Apples are never steeply discounted because Apple’s wholesale to dealers is only 3% – 5% below the online store price. If you see a ‘new’ Apple being offered at 20% or more off, it is either not new or it is a scam. The best buy is the Apple Refurb store at $ 800 for a MacBook with a one year warranty – when they are available.

Used, you may be able to find a Powerbook G3 or an iBook G3 at $ 300, but G4 laptops are still holding at around $ 500 and up

Are cheap aftermarket laptop chargers safe to use?

Question by mm_2000_1: Are cheap aftermarket laptop chargers safe to use?
I’m looking for an extra charger for my Lenovo R61. The Lenovo-brand chargers run between $ 35 and $ 95 for what I’m looking for. Apparently, I can buy a new aftermarket version of any of them on EBay for less than $ 20. Is there any reason not to buy the less expensive ones?

Is it okay to use a latop on your bed if you use a raised laptop stand?

Question by : Is it okay to use a latop on your bed if you use a raised laptop stand?
I have recently bought a raised laptop stand, which makes the laptop raise to about a 45 degree angle. Is it okay if I use my laptop on my bed when it is on the stand?

Best answer:

Answer by lafave
As long as the fan on the bottom of your laptop is not being covered up and there is plenty of space for it to ‘breathe’ then you should be fine, especially if the stand has a cooling fan. As long as the vents aren’t blocked, your computer shouldn’t overheat. Just make sure to always use a stand of some sort, because not only would it risk overheating and frying your machine, but it can also be a fire hazard.

Why do some Laptops/Notebooks come with external optical drives?

Question by A: Why do some Laptops/Notebooks come with external optical drives?
I noticed that some Laptops/Notebooks even the expensive models do not come with integrated optical drives, why is this?

Best answer:

Answer by doktor
Netbooks are all about saving weight and power. Adding an optical drive wastes both, so a lot of “Notebooks” and “Netbooks” will not offer these unless as an external option. Laptops however are a little different and are more likely to have the optical drive present as they are less focused on the lighter aspects and more focused on delivering all the aspects of a portable desktop.

Hope that explains the why behind things.
